Banking, Insurance and Financial Statistics are National Accounting activities that fall under Financial Intermediation in the Systems of National Accounts.  Financial Intermediation represents all activities performed under institutions such as banks, central banks, credit unions, Insurance Companies, and Social Security and Pensions companies. The system of National Accounts 1993 (SNA 1993) breaks it down as a productive activity in which an institutional unit incurs liabilities as it own account to acquire a financial asset by engaging in a financial transaction in the market.
